24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
The 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Centre provides 9-1-1 call answer and emergency agency dispatch services to numerous communities and counties in Central Alberta.

When do I call 9-1-1?
If you believe your problem is an emergency, IT IS!  Use 9-1-1 to access emergency response agencies (police, fire, emergency medical services).

What does a 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatcher ask, and why?
Having accurate information speeds the delivery of the emergency service, and helps ensure an appropriate response. When you call 9-1-1 you will be asked, “Do you need police, fire or ambulance?” Should you require the police we will link you through to their dispatch centre or the appropriate police agency.

Should your 9-1-1 call be for fire or ambulance, that responding agency will get a pre-alert, providing them a “heads up” before we have all the particulars of your incident. We will ask you your address (which includes your legal land if calling from outside a town or city,) along with the phone number you are calling from. These two items are essential should we become disconnected or have a poor connection – at least having these two identifiers will get the responding units travelling in the right direction.

After knowing your location and phone number, the 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatcher will ask what the problem is and other important questions. All 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatchers use an international protocol to ensure appropriate resources are sent to the emergency. Answer the questions the best you can. Our 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatchers are trained professionals and know what to ask and when to ask it!  They are the first- first responders and will provide the necessary advice to assist you in helping those in need.
