Traffic Safety Action Plan

In 2006, there were more than 2,700 traffic collisions in Red Deer. This large number occurred despite Red Deer having reduced the traffic casualty rate by one-third over seven years (2000 – 2006).

In an effort to continue to improve traffic safety, The City of Red Deer commissioned a study to develop a Traffic Safety Action Plan along with various community partners. The plan aligns with the goals of the Alberta Provincial Government’s Traffic Safety Action Plan and the Canadian Government’s National Road Safety Vision 2010.

Traffic safety affects all of us in Red Deer as drivers, passengers, pedestrians and citizens. It is something to be taken seriously, and the City has done just that. The Traffic Safety Action Plan was designed in an effort to target some key areas of improvement like aggressive driving, pedestrian safety, seat belt usage, snow related collisions and drinking and driving.
