Kill a Watt
Kill a Watt
electricity monitor
Many of us try to conserve energy but often it's hard to see the difference we're making. A device called a Kill a Watt can measure how much electricity your appliances and electronic devices use so you can see that difference. And that difference can save energy and money!
Thanks to a partnership between The City of Red Deer's Electric Light & Power department and Red Deer Public Library,
Kill a Watts
can be borrowed from both branches of RDPL for a three week loan period.
Kill a Watts are palm-sized monitors that are plugged into a wall socket. Your appliance or electronic device is then plugged into the Kill a Watt, which will tell you how much electricity it uses. You can experiment with how much your appliance or device uses when it's turned on, turned off, or in different operating modes. If you enter your electricity rate you can also find out how much your appliance or device costs to operate.
