The City of Red Deer offers a yard waste program through its garbage collection contractor. The contractor collects yard waste in a separate vehicle.
Dates of Collection Yard waste will be collected starting the second Monday of April until the second Friday of November. This year yard waste pick up starts on Monday, April 8 and ends on Friday, November 8. Remember to place your yard waste in identifiable containers using the yard waste stickers. Free yard waste week for spring will be April 29 to May 4. Free yard waste week for fall will be October 7 to 12. During free yard waste week you can drop off your yard waste materials for free at the landfill. For acceptable materials please see list below.
Yard Waste Collection To have your yard waste collected, it must be outside by 7 a.m. on your regular garbage day and it must be visible to the driver.
Set it out in one of the following ways:

Metal or plastic garbage cans marked with yard waste labels available from The City of Red Deer.

Paper yard waste bags, which are available at most hardware stores and department stores.

Small branches are to be bundled and tied with a string.
Note: No plastic bags are permitted!
Yard waste that is set out in plastic bags is considered garbage and will go into the landfill. It will also be included in your garbage five-unit limit.
Items Accepted in the Yard Waste Program:
- grass clippings
- tree branches (maximum branch size is 2.5 cm (1 inch) in diameter and 1.2 m (4 feet) in length
- leaves

Yard waste container too heavy? Don't overfill your yard waste container. According to The City bylaw, the maximum allowable weight is 25 kilograms (55 pounds). However, a lower weight is encouraged whenever possible.
Yard waste drop off Yard waste can be dropped off at the Waste Management Facility year round. There is a minimum $7 charge for this service.
