The City of Red Deer storm sewer system collection maintenance staff is responsible for storm sewer cleaning, inspection, and collection system maintenance (catch basins, manholes, and mains).
The maintenance team is responsible for monitoring the condition of the storm sewer infrastructure to ensure that lines are free of obstructions. Keeping our drainage system healthy is important because all of our drainage water goes into the Red Deer River and creeks.
Is it safe to dump waste into the storm sewer system?
Never put any kind of waste in the storm sewer system. The storm sewer system exists solely to transport rainwater and melted snow from our streets and parkways back to the river. The water that flows through the storm sewer flows directly into the Red Deer River and does not get treated. If paint, carpet cleaning solution, soap, or other materials are dumped into the storm sewer, it pollutes Red Deer's creeks and rivers.
If you have questions about storm sewer lines, please contact The City of Red Deer Environmental Services at 403-342-8750 or e-mail environmentalservices@reddeer.ca
