History
On February 17, 1911, the hamlet of North Red Deer was advised by the Province that it would be incorporated as a village. The Ministerial Order approving the incorporation was signed on July 18, 1911.
In 1947 negotiations began between the Village of North Red Deer and the City of Red Deer on their amalgamation. The last meeting of the Village of North Red Deer Council was held on December 24, 1947 and the amalgamation of the Village and City took place on January 1, 1948.
Events
Since 2009, the Riverside Meadows Community Association, with assistance from City staff has been working on the following Village of North Red Deer Centennial projects. The Riverside Meadows Community Association would like to invite you to join them at these events:
A website on the history of the North Red Deer community;
A Centennial birthday cake on February 17, 2011 courtesy of Z-99 Radio Station;
A formal recognition of the 2011 Centennial by Red Deer City Council;
An art contest to develop Centennial posters / postcards;
A May 6-7th display at the Historical Schools Fair of the Centennial posters / posters created by grade 5 students at Fairview Elementary School and students at the Koinonia Christian School;
A one-day Centennial celebration party on August 27, 2011.
The August 27, 2011 Centennial Celebration Party will be held at the Koinonia Christian School and the North Cottage School from 12 noon to 5pm on Saturday, August 27th. There will be a Centennial birthday cake, entertainment, children’s arts and crafts, and a display of historical images of North Red Deer.
