The 1912 Allen Bungalow in Red Deer is a one
and one-half storey Edwardian bungalow in the
arts and crafts style.

The designation applies to the house and the
surrounding landscaped garden area. The heavily
treed property is located within Red Deer’s Urban
Park system and is situated adjacent to the
Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary.

The one-storey Harvey E. Bawtinheimer Garage
has a low-pitched gable roof with stepped
parapet, a brick exterior, a large central triple-leaf
garage door, and an offset front entrance. It is
located on a busy commercial street in Red
Deer’s commercial downtown core.

In 2009 the Cenotaph was designated as a
Municipal Historic Resource.

The Red Deer Cenotaph is a war memorial on an
approximately 2 square metre parcel of land on
Ross (50th) Street. The cenotaph is comprised of
a Tyndall limestone sculpture of a solider
surmounting a large granite pedestal.

Historical record

The former Canadian Pacific Railway Station,built
in 1910, is a rectangular, one and one-half
storey structure with a distinctive Chateau Style
design characteristic of classic CPR train stations.

This dominant landmark is situated at the west
end of Ross Street, where its horizontal silhouette
demarcates Red Deer’s historic downtown core.

The Canadian Pacific Railway Station is one of
only two buildings in Red Deer that is a
Designated Provincial Historic Resource. It is
also a City of Red Deer Designated Municipal
Historic Resource (HP-2).

Historical record

Cronquist House is a solid two and one-half
storey brick Queen Anne Revival style building,
featuring a prominent high round turret with
conical roof, bay windows, and front veranda.
It was moved to its present location at Bower
Ponds recreation area in 1976.

In 1983 Cronquist House became Alberta’s
first designated municipal historic resource.

The Tom Ellis Residence is a two and one-half
storey home of brick construction with an
intersecting hipped roof. It has multiple corbelled
brick chimneys, rounded arch window and door
openings, and an enclosed veranda with wrap
around balcony above. It is located on a large
corner lot of a busy street in the Red Deer
neighbourhood of Woodlea.

The Horton Water Spheroid is a City of Red
Deer Historical Significant Resource (HS-64).

The Horton Water Spheroid is a tall, bulbous
water tower with a narrow base that flares out
near the bottom. Built of steel, the tower is
40.2 metres tall with an upper ball 18.9
metres in diameter. It is located in Mountview,
one of the highest points in the Red Deer.

Historical record

The J.J. Gaetz House is a two and one-half
storey brick veneer, wood frame Edwardian
style house built circa 1914. Situated on a
large property directly east of the Red Deer
Cemetery and adjacent to the Michener Centre,
it is located on the escarpment overlooking the
city of Red Deer.

The J.J. Gaetz House is a City of Red Deer
Designated Municipal Historic Resource (HP-11).
