Dog License

All dog owners in The City of Red Deer must purchase a dog license. Licenses must be purchased annually and are effective from January 1 to December 31. Residents must be at least 18 years old to purchase or renew a dog license.

The penalty for an unlicensed dog in the City of Red Deer is $250 for the first offence, $500 for the second offence and $750 for the third offence.

The fee for a 2013 dog license is:

  • $27.30/year for an altered dog
  • $58.75/year for an intact dog


If you need a Replacement Tag:

If your dog loses his tag, you can purchase a replacement tag for a $10.50 fee. The tag can be purchased at any of the above locations.

What to bring when licensing your dog:

  • Microchip identification number, or
  • Tattoo identification number
  • Name of veterinarian
  • Telephone number of veterinarian

This information is collected to ensure that lost pets can be reunited with their owners.
