Health Regulations

Alberta Agriculture, Food & Rural Development – Food Safety Division
This division inspects and registers meat-processing facilities in accordance with provincial meat hygiene regulations and inspects processed meat and poultry products for sale in Alberta.

Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)
This agency enforces the Food and Drug Act and regulations. They also investigate food safety, including food additive levels, microbiological quality and other potential health hazards. In addition, the CFIA inspects food-manufacturing facilities, investigates consumer/ trade complaints, monitors and samples food products and imports. 

Environmental Health - David Thompson Health Region
The Environmental Health division of the David Thompson Health Region, is an approving authority to the various types of businesses. They enforce regulations under the Public Health Act and Health Standards and Guidelines. Public Health Inspectors provide services wherever food is made or sold, health hazards in the environment could occur, and where the built environment (e.g. swimming pools, housing) can impact human health.
