The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is an indicator of the changes in consumer prices experienced by the target population (in this case, Alberta residents).

All Items Consumer Price Index Information The CPI measures price change by comparing, through time, the cost of a fixed basket of commodities. The eight major components of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket are:

· 'shelter'
· 'household operations and furnishings'
· 'clothing and footwear'
· 'transportation'
· 'health and personal care'
· 'recreation, education and reading'
· 'alcoholic beverages and tobacco products'
