With the goal of supporting open and accountable government, Red Deer City Council passed the Campaign Contribution & Expense Disclosure Bylaw in November 2006. This bylaw requires the public disclosure of all campaign contributions and campaign expenses and relates to all candidates running for the offices of mayor, councillor or school trustee. Specific rules are also set out with regard to how you deal with anonymous contributions and surpluses. What does this mean?As soon as you have determined that you intend to run for office you should begin tracking all revenues and expenses. By December 31 in the year of an election you are required to submit a report to the Returning Officer. Please refer to the bylaw to ensure you understand and comply with what is required of you, or if you have any questions please contact Legislative & Governance Services.
