Sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Red Deer the Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year Award are given out each year at the Citizen of the Year Rotary Spring Gala. The cornerstone of these awards is volunteerism and leadership that is reflected in the quality of life in Red Deer and area. Nominees or nominators do not need to be a member of Rotary.
Nomination Criteria for Citizen of the Year Award
Nominations must contain the following information:
- Length of service to the community of Red Deer, outside the parameters of one’s employment
- Residency and personal background
- Legacy created and the impact created in the community
- Enhancement of community
- Breadth of impact
Nomination Criteria for Young Citizen of the Year Award
Nominations must contain the following information:
- Demonstrated leadership commitment
- Demonstrated community service commitment
- Under the age of 26 years
- Residency and personal background
- Breadth of impact

Nominations must be submitted in writing to:

Attention: Citizen of the Year or Young Citizen of the Year
Nominations must be received no later than March 31, 2012.
Nomination forms are available online or can be picked-up at the following locations:
- City of Red Deer
- Red Deer Advocate
- Red Deer Chamber of Commerce
Details
- Applications must be signed by two (2) Red Deer residents and indicate if nominee is aware of the application.
- Applications are kept confidential.
- Selected Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year will be notified by a Rotary member and the Mayor of Red Deer, and attendance at the Citizen of the Year Spring Gala confirmed.
- No citizen can be named Citizen of the Year or Young Citizen of the Year more than once.
- Unsuccessful nominations can be re-submitted.
- All citizens of Red Deer and area are eligible.
- Nominees do not need to be a member of Rotary.
- A final meeting of the Selection Committee will be held with a final vote to select the Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year.
Tickets are $100 per person.
