This legislation has been proclaimed to make it an offence to pass emergency workers, highway construction crews and tow truck operators at a speed greater than 60 kph in the lane occupied by the emergency vehicle, construction workers or tow truck operators.
On multi-lane highways, ie. QE II and Highways 16 and 43, any vehicle driving in the lane closest to any of the above mentioned vehicles must slow to 60 kph when passing that vehicle. A vehicle occupying the outside lane, or the lane farthest from the emergency vehicles does not have to slow down, nor does traffic proceeding in the opposite direction. The law applies only to those vehicles travelling in the same direction as the emergency vehicle.
