Traffic Enforcement Unit





Traffic Enforcement Unit:

  • Enforces various provincial statutes within the City of Red Deer: Traffic Safety Act; Gaming and Liquor Act; Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act; Petty Trespass Act; Fuel Tax Act; Prevention of Youth Tobacco Use Act; Tobacco Reduction Act and City of Red Deer bylaws. 
  • Arrests wanted persons.
  • Works in conjunction with the Red Deer City RCMP Traffic Services unit on Selective Traffic Enforcement Programs. (S.T.E.P.)
  • Assists RCMP at motor vehicle collisions.

Transit Bylaw Enforcement:

  • Responds to complaints from Transit operators (bus drivers) and transit management re: bullying passengers, intoxicated persons on buses and at Transit Terminal, removes unruly passengers from buses and the Terminal.
  • Monitors bus zone infractions ie. parking in a bus zone.
  • Conducts traffic enforcement on bus routes. 
  • Assists RCMP at motor vehicle collisions involving buses.

Bylaw Enforcement:

  • Responds to complaints from the general public in relation to parking violations and abandoned automobiles, as well as conducting general patrols for violations.
  • Investigates snow removal complaints.
  • Serve traffic summons and subpoenas.

Parks Bylaw Enforcement:

  • Conducts preventative patrols in the parks.
  • Responds to citizens' complaints in relation to the parks ie. off-road vehicles in the parks, campers, consumption of liquor, tree damage, littering, vandalism and graffiti.
