Victim Services

RCMP Red Deer City Victim Services Unit (RDCVSU) is a police-based program located in the Red Deer City Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at 4602 51 Avenue in Red Deer.

RDCVSU works directly with victims of crime and trauma within the City of Red Deer. Highly trained and skilled community volunteers will provide all victims with support, information and referrals in an effort to:

  • lessen the immediate impact of crime or trauma upon the victim
  • help the victim cope with the effects of crime or trauma
  • provide encouragement and empowerment to the victim throughout their dealings with the Criminal Justice System
  • help prevent further victimization

RDCVSU is able to provide a number of services to victims of crime, including:

  • Victim Impact Statements
  • Financial Benefits Program (available through the Alberta Solicitor General and Public Safety)
  • Restitution Program
  • Court Preparation
  • Court Accompaniment
  • Investigation updates and information
  • Court updates and information
  • Provincial and National Victim Notification Registries
  • Elder abuse prevention and intervention

Other services are available to those who have experienced physical or emotional trauma as a result of tragic circumstances such as the sudden loss of a loved one, witnessing a tragic or traumatic event, and disasters.

These services include:

  •  Notification of Next of Kin (in the event of sudden death)
  •  Individual or group Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)
  •  Individual or group peer support, crisis management and debriefing
  •  Demobilizations for First Responders in large scale emergencies/disasters
  •  Referrals to other agencies for follow-up care

Red Deer City Victim Services Unit Advocates provide professional, courteous and confidential service to clients, and work closely with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in order to deliver these services in an efficient and effective manner, with the utmost in compassion and caring.
