Culture Community Development

"Culture is all around us in our everyday lives and can be experienced through the formal and informal interaction of the many forms of creative expression and exploration of our heritage as a community or as individuals." Culture Vision Steering Committee (June 2007).

Arts, culture and heritage are thriving in Red Deer and contribute significantly to making Red Deer a desirable place to live.

Culture Services aims to provide community development and support services to the arts, culture and heritage groups of Red Deer. Community arts and culture groups can seek support from the Culture Community Development staff in the following areas:

  • The development of sustainable arts programs for members and residents of Red Deer including access to registration services through The City.
  • Consultation on potential funding sources, grant application review and municipal letters of support.
  • Board Development Training and workshops for board members.
  • Access to the Culture Services Resource Library that contains books on event planning, financial management, programming, board operations and many other topics relevant to not-for-profit groups.
  • Festival and special event planning.
  • Marketing and sponsorship development.
  • Identifying needs and priorities for the development of community based programs, services and resources.
  • Initiating collaborative efforts with other community partners.
  • Access to a database of local visual, performing and literary artists.
