Dawn Detarando is a ceramic artist from the state of Massachusetts. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Massachusetts College of Art in 1996 and her Masters of Fine Arts from Ohio State University in 1998. Dawn has taught courses at both the college and university levels and gives lectures and demonstrations in ceramic arts. Along with her partner Brian McArthur, she currently runs Voyageur Art and Tile, a successful business that creates art for the gift market, interior design applications and public art spaces. “My current body of work deals with a personal narrative of migration. My prairie surroundings and the distant mountains inspire me, but I’m reminded of other places by the migrating birds and by my strong connection to the ocean," says Detaranado. "Using metaphors and a symbolic vocabulary of clay objects, I produce sculpture that expresses a need to migrate or travel home.”
