Public Art

What Public Art does for our city
The Public Art Program serves Red Deer residents, visitors and employees by integrating outstanding works of art into public spaces and facilities throughout the city. Through the acquisition of artworks for public display, The City provides a more aesthetically pleasing and culturally enriched urban environment and creates cultural legacy for the future. High quality artwork is accessible to people in their everyday activities, thereby enhancing Red Deer’s appeal as a place to live, work and visit

The City of Red Deer’s Public Art Collection, held in trust for the citizens of Red Deer, represents an important piece of Red Deer’s cultural legacy. It reflects Red Deer’s unique character and history, and celebrates our global connectedness, diversity and regional artistic talent. It reflects the cultural, physical, political, emotional and spiritual and environmental context of the artists who are creating it as they experience the world or society. The Public Art Collection is located in “a gallery without walls” with works exhibited in a variety of venues throughout the city.

The purpose of the Public Art Program is to acquire high quality artwork, create community landmarks that foster civic pride and incorporate community input into the design of shared public spaces throughout the city.
