Green Deer 2009

Green Deer is growing! The annual city clean up is now two months long instead of two weeks. Why? So you can have an even bigger impact on community parks and green spaces.

Protect your parks and wildlife from harmful litter.
Trash and littler have built up throughout the winter. Green Deer is a city and community effort to clean up what winter left behind.

From April 20 to June 21, join neighbours, friends and coworkers to make Red Deer beautiful. Register for Green Deer today.

How to register

  • Register by calling Recreation staff at 403-309-8411.
  • Register in person at the Recreation Centre or the Collicutt Centre and pick up your TD Friends of the Environment garbage bags at that time. (Needle safety information and free pickers will also be available).
  • Register at the Green Deer kick-off barbeque being held Monday, April 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot north of the skateboard park (corner of 48 Avenue and 43 Street).

People are encouraged to register so Green Deer organizers can distribute cleaning supplies, track the areas that have been cleaned and recognize the volunteer work. Every group to register will automatically be entered into a draw to win a barbeque event.

Once you register, there are a variety of ways to get involved and have fun:

  • challenge another group to see who can pick up the most trash;
  • register to pick up litter in your own neighbourhood or in one of your favourite park areas; or
  • sponsor a friendly competition among those in your group and offer a prize.

If you have collected large amounts of garbage, please notify Suzanne at 403-309-8411and she will arrange to have your pile picked up. You can also put the Green Deer garbage bags with your own garbage. You will not be charged for the additional garbage.
