Parks Planning, Ecological Services & Studies

Gaetz Lake Sanctuary in Red Deer. The City of Red Deer Parks Planning & Techincal Services area works hard to protect the natural elements that make our city such a special place to live. Staff in this area work with other City departments and independent developers to create ecological profiles and to conserve park spaces in new subdivisions, commercial, and industrial areas. As a part of this team, Ecological Services staff also contribute to the planning process through the development of an Ecological Management System, which helps to manage the ecology of a given area. Additional planning happens through the development of and procedural updates to our Integrated Pest Management program, which helps us to control pests and diseases in natural areas throughout the city.

Red Deer has over 4,000 acres of parks and green spaces throughout the city; this much natural space simply wouldn’t be possible without careful planning and creating. Whether the plans involve redeveloping parks that are long-standing favourites in the community, or creating master plans for new spaces, our goal is always to develop outdoor areas that will be beneficial to citizens for years to come.
