Limousine and Sedan Bylaw passed by Council

August 2, 2007

(Red Deer, Alberta) – All limousine and sedan companies, along with their drivers, must be licensed by October 1, 2007. Following public feedback, City Council approved the Limousine and Sedan Bylaw on Monday, July 30, 2007.

“We are ensuring public safety by requiring all limousine and sedan vehicles to be regularly inspected and all limousine and sedan drivers to undergo a security check.” said Deb Mann, City of Red Deer License Inspector.

The Limousine and Sedan Bylaw will regulate and license the use of limousines and sedans for hire within the city. The bylaw sets out operating requirements of limousines, sedans and their services and drivers to ensure public safety.

Limousines are defined as a motor vehicle for hire, not equipped with a meter, to transport persons which have a minimum seating capacity of five passengers in the rear compartment.

Sedans are defined as a full sized, four door, motor vehicle for hire, not equipped with a meter, to transport persons, which have a maximum seating capacity of four passengers in the rear compartment.

The bylaw and information pertaining to it are available online at www.reddeer.ca/inspections. A print version is also available for download from the same website or by going to Inspections & Licensing department, Third Floor, City Hall, 4914 48 Avenue.
