2007 property tax deadline next week

June 22, 2007

(Red Deer, Alberta) – The City of Red Deer would like to remind residents that 2007 property tax payments are due on or before Saturday, June 30, 2007. The deadline for in-person payments at City Hall Cashiers is Friday, June 29 by 4:30 p.m.

If property owners miss the payment deadline, they will be responsible for paying a penalty, levied at 6 per cent based on the outstanding property taxes owing. The penalty is calculated in a lump sum adjustment on July 1. For example, if $2,000 is left unpaid on June 30, 2007, a penalty of 6 per cent or $120 would be applied to the account on July 1, 2007.

Property owners can pay their taxes by coming in-person to the City Hall cashiers or dropping the payment off in an envelope in the City Hall night depository located on the east side of the building. Payments can also be sent by mail, providing they have a June postmark, to The City of Red Deer, Box 5008, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 3T4. Or they can be made through most chartered banks, credit unions, trust companies or ATB Financial branches.

Tax payments can also be made through The City’s Tax Installment Plan (TIP). Property owners have until June 29 to sign up for the 2007 tax year at Assessment & Taxation Services office on the 2nd floor of the Professional Building at 4808 50 Street. When they sign up, property owners will pay the balance owing for the first half of the 2007 tax year and then make monthly payments through their bank account.
