Building permit values continued to rise in June surpassing the June 2006 total by $11 million. There were 346 building permits issued, totaling $33 million.
“Permit numbers continue to rise as we enter a busy summer construction season. Demand for new homes is high and we will continue to see growth as businesses, industrial and commercial developments expand,” said Joyce Boon of the Inspections & licensing department.
Residential housing construction values remain ahead of last year with $15.7 million in residential permits issued in June. This is an overall 2007 permit value of $174.5 million.
Public building permits are up this month as well with a building permit for the RCMP addition to the Fire Station located at 67 Street for $6.7 million. The Red Deer College Trade Wing was also issued a building permit valued at $5.7 million. Commercial permits increased to $2.5 million which partially consisted of further renovation permits for Bower Mall. Industrial permits totaled $3 million this period, with the Sand Source industrial building in Edgar Industrial Park valued at $2.1 million.
