Residents will have new ways to experience Maskepetoon Park

November 26, 2007

(Red Deer, Alberta) – The City of Red Deer wants to know how you think Maskepetoon Park should look.

A public open house will be held on November 28 to get feedback about a proposed park design. Citizens’ feedback about the design will help develop the 2007 Maskepetoon Park Master Plan, which aims to preserve the area’s ecological sensitivity while providing the public with opportunities to view, experience and learn about the park’s natural assets.

“Maskepetoon Park provides citizens with opportunities to learn about nature and enjoy an active lifestyle. The master plan will help us find ways to enhance these opportunities and curb inappropriate behaviour and activities that sometimes occur in the park,” said Dave Matthews, Parks Planning and Technical Services Supervisor.

An inventory and assessment of the park is complete. Findings were used to develop preliminary concepts for proposed park features such as trails, viewpoints, boardwalks and interpretive locations and themes.

“We’d like to hear whether we’ve achieved a balance between ensuring citizens can continue to experience and enjoy the park while preserving it as an environmentally sensitive park,” said Matthews.

The public open house runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ecole Oriole Park Elementary School Library (5 Oldbury Street).
