$750,000 available for homelessness initiative proposals
April 22, 2008
(Red Deer, Alberta) – The Community Advisory Board (Housing) requests proposals for projects that prevent housing loss and secure housing and support for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
“As we enter the eighth year of applications we anticipate continued community involvement in projects that once again aid to implement strategies of the HPS Community Plan and the Mayor’s Task Force On Ending Homelessness,” said Pam Ralston, Community Facilitator for The City of Red Deer.
Approximately $750,000 is available until March 31, 2009, for capital and support projects according to the criteria of the homeless initiative.
Proposals are selected based on their alignment with the community’s homelessness and housing planning documents and the identified priorities. Proposals must include detailed information that identifies need, financial viability, sustainability and project design, including evaluation strategies.
Examples of projects that have been funded in the past include transitional housing, support services, prevention measures, and emergency facilities and their operation.
Residents and organizations can submit proposals for the homelessness initiative by filling out the application form on The City’s website at
www.reddeer.ca/socialplanning
under
Housing.
All proposals must be submitted by Monday, May 26, 2008 at 4:30 p.m.
The Community Advisory Board (Housing) will make recommendations to Red Deer City Council for their approval as to which projects best align with community priorities.
All three levels of government have invested in a strategy to help reduce and prevent homelessness in Red Deer. Since 2000, the Government of Canada and Province of Alberta have provided funding for The City of Red Deer to administer the homeless initiative.
