Emergency Services conducts live fire training exercise

April 17, 2008

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Emergency Services will conduct a live fire training exercise on a vacant house on Friday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The property is located on City owned land, south of the City landfill. The land and house were purchased by The City as part of the landfill expansion project.

“Crews will practice various fire fighting techniques followed by a complete burn down of the house,” explains Mike Godwin, Chief Training Officer with Emergency Services.

This training exercise includes various members of The City of Red Deer Emergency Services department, as well as new recruits.

Emergency Services advises the public this is a controlled training exercise and there is no need to call 911.

Emergency Services advises the media that emergency radio traffic will also be greatly increased during this training session.
