(Red Deer, Alberta) – Spring is here and drivers are reminded to stay safe by taking precautions around street sweeping equipment. From April 6 until April 16, weather permitting, City crews will be sweeping streets, boulevards and medians on main arterial roads.
- Each day from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., City crews will be sweeping all medians on main arterial roads.
- Each day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., City crews will be sweeping all boulevards on main arterial roads.
- Each evening from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., City crews will be sweeping the streets on main arterial roads.
“During spring, City crews need to get out and clean the streets from the sand and debris that has collected over winter,” said Steve Wright, Roads Superintendent. “We encourage motorists to keep safety in mind as they travel roads where there is street sweeping equipment.”
For maximum safety, The City recommends motorists leave at least three car lengths between their vehicle and a street sweeper. Keeping a safe distance can also prevent damage to vehicles from debris that might come from the street sweeper during the cleaning process.
Spring cleaning for main arterial roads will begin on April 6 and finish on April 16. Further notice will be provided on scheduled street cleaning in subdivisions. On average, it takes The City 40 days to sweep all city roadways.
