(Red Deer, Alberta) – Residents who have their garbage and recycling picked up Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays will have to wait an extra few days when the holiday waste collection schedule takes effect on December 25.
During the weeks of December 25 to 31 and January 1 to 7, residents whose regular pick-up day is Thursday will have their garbage and recycling collected on Friday. Residents whose regular pick-up day is Friday will have their garbage and recycling collected on Monday, and residents who regular pick-up day is Monday will have their garbage and recycling collected according to the following schedule:
- Riverside Meadows and Highland Green will be collected Monday
- Fairview and Oriole Park will be collected Tuesday
- West Park will be collected Wednesday
“If your collection day is normally Thursday, Friday or Monday and you think you’ve been missed, please leave your garbage and recycling out until Wednesday. If it hasn’t been collected by Wednesday you can contact The City by calling 403-340-BLUE,” said Jeff Miller, Environmental Planning Superintendent for The City of Red Deer. “We thank residents for their patience as our collection contractor does in four days what they normally do in five.”
After the holidays, garbage and recycling pick-ups will resume as usual. Residents whose garbage and recycling is collected on Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be unaffected by this change.
The City reminds residents to set out all materials before 7 a.m. for pick-up.
"We also ask that residents do not include Christmas wrap in their blue boxes as The City’s residential recycling program is currently unable to process wrapping paper. However, we encourage residents to save their wrapping paper to reuse next year or put items in reusable gift bags," said Miller.
