(Red Deer, Alberta) – Red Deer residents are reminded all dogs must be on a leash while off the owner’s property.
Regulations are in place to protect citizens, animals and property. “We have a beautiful park system that is utilized by all types of users. We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy all of our parks safely,” says Steve Davison, Parks Amenities Supervisor.
The public is reminded that dogs are not permitted off leash at any of our park nodes, such as Heritage Ranch, Bower Ponds, River Bend and Mackenzie Trails. Three Mile Bend is the only exception area where owners can remove the leash but must ensure pets remain in their control (i.e. are within calling distance).
Fines will be given to owners who do not obey The City of Red Deer’s Dog Bylaw. The bylaw states the owner is not to permit the dog to run at large or damage property. A dog running at large is an $80 fine for the first offence and $200 for the second offence. A dog damaging property is a $60 fine for the first offence and $80 for the second offence.
