(Red Deer, Alberta) - Building Permit values for the past year indicate huge increases, particularly in the industrial and public sectors.
“2007 has certainly been a very busy year,” says Paul Meyette, Manager of the Inspections & Licensing department. “Permit values overall are up by almost $139 million setting a new record; while residential values are down by approximately $11.4 million, apartment construction soared this year with over $42 million in permits compared with approximately $18 million in 2006. The huge increase in permit values can be attributed to an increase in industrial construction values by almost $68 million and an increase in public construction by $65 million.”
Permit highlights for the year include $70 million for several permits issued to Stuart Olson Constructors for the construction of the new Civic Yards at 7555 40 Avenue; $38 million to Red Deer College at 100 College Boulevard for renovations to their main administration building and construction of Towers 3 and 5; $27 million to Becca International for the Executive Place Office Building at 4902 50 Street; $16.5 million to Laebon for the construction of The Views condos at the St Joseph’s Convent site; $16.5 million to Lancaster Developments for the construction of a 100 unit apartment block at 2660 22 Street; $15.5 million to Masterpiece Construction for the construction of a 154 unit seniors living complex at 10 Inglewood Drive; $6.8 million for the RCMP addition to an existing fire hall at 5839 67 Street, and $6.2 million to Sears Canada for the construction of their store at Bower Mall.
