City won't shut off water

June 16, 2008

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Emergency crews are working to clean up a leak from an oil pipeline under the Red Deer River. The City of Red Deer won’t shut off its water treatment plant at this time based on an evaluation of the current situation.

“We are working closely with Alberta Environment to ensure our water quality is not impacted by the spill,” said Tom Marstaller, City of Red Deer Environmental Services Manager. “Based on the information we have there are no planned water outages, but residents will be notified of any changes.”

The City is committed to providing water of the highest quality and will continue to monitor this situation as it progresses.
