A new look for Waskasoo Park
March 17, 2008
(Red Deer, Alberta) – As part of work to develop updated signage in Waskasoo Park, The City of Red Deer is asking the community to take part in a brief online survey at
www.reddeer.ca/rpc.
The survey explores individual’s feelings about Red Deer’s park system and will be used to develop a new look for the signs.
“Waskasoo Park is over 25 years old, and existing sign standards need to be reviewed and updated,” said Trevor Poth, Parks Planning Coordinator with The City of Red Deer. “As we develop the new look, it’s important that we identify the community’s core values regarding parks. We know how important the park system is to Red Deer residents.”
The Waskasoo Park Identity survey is available online until April 14. Copies are also available at the Collicutt Centre, the Recreation Centre, Culture Services Centre and Kerry Wood Nature Centre for those who wish to fill it out by hand.
The City hired O2 Planning and Design to develop the look and review signage needs and locations. The sign standards will include construction materials, colours, layouts and imaging. The consultants will use the core values collected through the survey to create visual concepts that reflect what Waskasoo Park means to residents. The concepts will be completed by mid-summer, and presented to the public for comment.
“Completing the survey is a great reminder for those who use the parks about the value parks add to our lives,” said Poth. “It’s also an opportunity to invite new residents and those who haven’t explored Waskasoo Park yet to discover this community gem.”
New signage will be incorporated into areas such as Maskepetoon Park as they are developed. Existing signage will be replaced over the next few years.
