City requests public input on secondary suites
March 17, 2008
(Red Deer, Alberta) – Starting March 18, The City of Red Deer encourages residents to give input on secondary suites in Red Deer.
Based on changes to the Alberta Building Code and upcoming changes to the Alberta Fire Code standards, as well as recommendations in the 2006 Affordable Housing Strategy, The City is undertaking an analysis of secondary suites in Red Deer. Secondary suites are additional self-contained living spaces that include a kitchen, bathroom and sleeping area contained within an existing home.
“We would like to know what our citizens have experienced in regards to secondary suites and what direction they would like to see The City take in the future,” said Scott Cameron, Social Planning Manager.
The public can give input in two ways. A web survey will be available on Tuesday, March 18 at
www.reddeer.ca/socialplanning
. A print version for drop-off will be available by going to Social Planning, fourth floor, City Hall, 4914 – 48 Avenue.
The web survey closes Tuesday, March 25.
A public open house is also planned for early April. Once details on this event are finalized they will be available on The City’s website.
“As Red Deer experiences record growth, your input will help us determine if we need to make any changes to secondary suites regulations,” said Cameron.
