Emergency Services conducts controlled burn for training
March 17, 2008
(Red Deer, Alberta) – Emergency Services will conduct a controlled burn of a vacant house as a training exercise on Tuesday, March 18 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The property is located on City owned land on the southwest corner of Highway 595 and 30 Avenue, across from the Red Deer County fire hall. The land and house were purchased by The City as part of the landfill expansion project.
“First we will conduct numerous burns within the house,” explains Wes Van Bavel, Emergency Services, “this training will also include burning the house to the ground.”
This controlled burn is part of an arson and forensic identification course that will include 30 participants from various Emergency Services agencies throughout the province including fire fighters, fire investigators, police agencies, and RCMP.
Emergency Services would like to advise the public this is a controlled training exercise and there is no need to call 911.
