(Red Deer, Alberta) – Citizens are encouraged to walk, cycle, in-line skate or jog to the Recreation Centre for the 17th annual Bike to Work Breakfast on Thursday, May 22.
The Bike to Work Breakfast kicks off Red Deer’s annual Summer Active Challenge against The City of Grande Prairie. From 7 to 9 a.m., all participants can enjoy a free breakfast and enter to win some great draw prizes. Sausages, pancakes, fruit, coffee and juice will be served.
Participants who attend the breakfast can record their morning physical activity as part of the challenge to see which city logs more hours of physical activity on May 22.
“People can register individually or as a group to have their activity count in the challenge,” said Joey Leslie, Red Deer Active Living representative. “It’s all in fun, so let’s prove we’re more active than our Grande Prairie rivals.”
To encourage people to rack up activity time, Peak Fitness and Athletic Training Center, Only Women's Fitness and World Gym will be offering free drop-in admission all day at their centres on May 22.
“We encourage people of all ages to start the day off right with this fun, community breakfast,” said Fan Wu, Program Leader for The City of Red Deer. “The whole day is designed to remind people about the importance of being active.”
To have your activity count for the Summer Active Challenge, call Rise Up Red Deer at 403-342-3134 or email them at: riseupreddeer@rdc.ab.ca. Everyone is invited to take part in, and report, 30 minutes of activity for the day. The deadline for reporting is noon on May 23.
The Bike to Work Breakfast is sponsored by The City of Red Deer Recreation, Parks & Culture department and Better Biking Red Deer.
