Crack sealing on city streets to begin
May 23, 2008
(Red Deer, Alberta) – Contractors for The City of Red Deer will seal cracks on city streets starting Monday, May 26. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays.
Crack sealing is an application of a rubberized oil product to seal cracks in asphalt pavement. This seal extends the life of the pavement and prevents water from entering the asphalt and road base.
The intersections of 67 Street and Gaetz Avenue and 77 Street and Gaetz Avenue will be completed between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. or Sunday mornings when there is less traffic on these streets. Work is expected to wrap up June 16, weather permitting.
“No Parking” signs will also be set out on the streets to be crack sealed a minimum of 12 hours before work begins. Citizens should watch for these signs in their area. After crack sealing is complete, the "No Parking" signs will remain on residential streets until street sweeping is completed. Vehicles left parked on signed streets will be ticketed and towed.
Citizens are asked to stay a safe distance from the machinery, obey construction signs, and slow down when passing maintenance workers. Your patience and cooperation is appreciated.
A complete list of streets to be crack sealed can be found on The City’s website at:
