Heritage Recognition Awards honour quality preservation work

May 21, 2008

(Red Deer, Alberta) - The Red Deer Heritage Preservation Committee will announce the winners of the 2008 Red Deer Heritage Recognition Awards on Monday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at Red Deer County Council Chambers, 38106 Range Road 275. Four new award recipients will be announced from the ten strong nominations received this year.

“We were extremely impressed with all the nominations,” said Heritage Preservation Committee Chair Tara Lodewyk. “The number and diversity of the nominations show the breadth and quality of heritage preservation efforts in Central Alberta. The Selection Committee had a great challenge in picking winners from such a strong set of nominations. The Heritage Preservation Committee therefore takes particular pleasure in announcing this year’s award recipients.”

The Heritage Recognition Awards program supports all the projects, the nominated and the ones finally selected, and encourages others to follow. Interested members of the public are invited to attend the ceremony on May 26 to congratulate this year’s winners and to enjoy some refreshments. This year marks the Committee’s seventh annual awards presentation.

“Heritage awareness continues to grow in the City of Red Deer and Red Deer County,” said Lodewyk. “Many wonderful initiatives are being undertaken to help to save our historical and environmental heritage.”
