Sneak preview: City's 2009 – 2012 draft strategic direction

May 5, 2008

(Red Deer, Alberta) – The City of Red Deer invites members of the community to a sneak preview of its 2009 – 2012 strategic direction. Preview the draft vision, mission and goals, and provide your comments.

“The strategic plan committee gathered data from many sources, including the public, on their priorities for our community,” said Craig Curtis, City Manager. “This information guided us in developing the vision, mission and goals.”

The open house will be held:

        Date:            Tuesday, May 13, 2008
        Time:            5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
        Location:       The Chalet, Westerner Park

This open house will provide citizens the opportunity to discover the main themes that emerged through the data gathering process. The strategic direction will be reviewed and citizens will be able to share possible strategies The City should undertake. Light refreshments will be available for attendees.

“It is so important for The City to identify priorities and work towards those,” said Mayor Morris Flewwelling. “This strategic direction creates a clearer picture of where we must focus our efforts to meet the needs of the community.”

The next steps in the strategic plan development process include creating objectives to measure goal success, identify barriers and resources needed to work towards the goals, and determine strategies.

Every three years following municipal elections, work on renewing The City’s strategic plan begins. The plan steers The City along the course communicated to us through citizen consultation and planning, assessment of the current environment and trends along with our purpose of providing excellent service to citizens of Red Deer.
