City Council approves changes to distribution tariff
December 2, 2008
(Red Deer, Alberta) – Red Deer residents will see their electricity delivery charges from The City increase in 2009 for the first time since 2002.
Red Deer City Council recently approved rate adjustments to the distribution tariff effective January 1, 2009. Customers will pay more as a result of an increase to the system access charge and distribution access charge, the Balancing Pool flow-through rebate and the local access fee.
In spite of this rate increase, Red Deer’s electric distribution rates remain very competitive with other Alberta utilities.
“The EL&P department needs to increase its Distribution Tariff charge for the first time since 2002 to respond to pressures of higher costs to maintain the aging transmission and distribution infrastructure”, said Ligong Gan, Manager of the Electric Light & Power department. “With the increased Distribution Tariff revenue, EL&P will be able to maintain the level of services expected from our customers”.
This increase will amount to just under two dollars per month for residential customers.
EL&P has proposed a number of maintenance projects scheduled for 2009 to enhance its transmission and distribution capacity to better service customers.
