Disaster Recovery Program registration centre
November 26, 2008
(Red Deer, Alberta) – The Government of Alberta announced the approval of the 2008 City of Red Deer Disaster Recovery Program. The program is designed to serve as a safety net providing financial assistance for losses and damages caused by flooding as a result of severe weather on August 8, 2008.
The City of Red Deer, working with the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, will open a registration centre to take applications from homeowners, tenants, small business, institutions or condominium associations that sustained damage during this flood.
Location:
Collicutt Centre, Room C (3031 31 Avenue)
Dates and times:
Thursday, November 27 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Friday, November 28 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Sunday, November 30 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Applicants need to have the following information with them to assist in completing the application:
• Name of insurance broker/agent and telephone number
• A letter from insurance company indicating what is not covered by insurance
• A list of losses and damages (this list can be added to when the provincial evaluator makes
their site visit)
Disaster recovery programs only cover situations where insurance is not readily and reasonably available. The program provides financial assistance for requirements essential for day-to-day living, but is not intended to provide full compensation for all losses and damages. Citizens are advised that the program does not cover losses or damages due to sewer backup because insurance can be purchased for this hazard.
If you are unable to access the registration centre during these three days, please contact The City of Red Deer Disaster Services Coordinator at 403-342-8258 to arrange application.
For more information about the program, call 1-888-671-1111 or visit www.aema.gov.ab.ca.
