Free Yard Waste Week starts October 13

October 9, 2008

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Residents can drop off unlimited amounts of yard waste for free at The City’s Waste Management Facility next week.

"Each fall, as residents prepare their yard for winter, we offer a free yard waste week to accommodate extra waste that is generated," said Jeff Miller, Environmental Planning Superintendent for The City of Red Deer. "We're then able to turn this yard waste into useful compost."

Free Yard Waste Week runs October 13 to 18, and The City’s door-to-door residential yard waste collection program wraps up on October 31, 2008.

Accepted yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, trees branches and garden material. All plastic bags must be removed from the yard waste and no garbage is permitted. Free drop off is available to Red Deer residents only, and no commercial haulers are accepted.

The Waste Management Facility is located at 1709 40 Avenue, just off the Delburne road. The facility will open for yard waste drop off from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
