Holiday waste collection schedule

December 22, 2009

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Residents who have their garbage and recycling picked up on Fridays will have to wait a few more days when the holiday collection schedule takes effect on December 25.

On Friday, December 25 and Friday, January 1, residents whose regular garbage and recycling pick-up day is Friday will have their garbage and recycling collected on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as per the following schedule:

  • Deer Park
Monday, December 28 and Monday, January 4

  • Lancaster and Vanier
Tuesday, December 29 and Tuesday, January 5

  • Rosedale
Wednesday, December 30 and Wednesday, January 6

“If your collection day is normally Friday and you think you’ve been missed, please leave your garbage and recycling out until Wednesday. If it hasn’t been collected by Wednesday you can contact The City by calling 403-340-BLUE,” said Janet Whitesell, Waste Management Superintendent. “We thank residents for their patience as our collection contractor does in four days what they normally do in five.”

After the holidays, garbage and recycling pick-up will resume as usual. Residents whose garbage and recycling is collected Monday through Thursday will be unaffected by this change.

The City reminds residents to set out all materials before 7 a.m. for pick-up.

"We also ask that residents do not include Christmas wrap in their blue boxes as The City’s residential recycling program is currently unable to process wrapping paper. However, we encourage residents to save their wrapping paper to reuse next year or put items in reusable gift bags," said Whitesell.
