New Planning Director appointed

December 14, 2009

(Red Deer, Alberta) – The City of Red Deer is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Meyette as the new Planning Director.

The Planning division is newly created under the recent Organizational Review. The division includes the departments of Inspections & Licensing and Land & Economic Development, as well the management of the contract with Parkland and Community Planning Services, Red Deer 300,000 and the Greater Downtown planning.

“I have known Paul for many years and know that he is a highly skilled and deeply committed leader who is an ideal fit to lead the new Planning division,” said Craig Curtis, City Manager. “Paul brings with him a wealth of experience in planning and development and will also prove to be a valuable addition to the new Corporate Leadership Team.”

“This position fits both my professional and personal goals. I am looking forward to the challenge of developing the new Planning division and bringing the planning services at The City together. I know there is already a strong team in place who will come together to provide increasingly effective and collaborative planning services,” said Paul Meyette, Inspections & Licensing Manager.

Meyette has been involved with The City for 20 years in various functions. He has held the position of manager of the Inspections & Licensing department since 2004. Prior to this he provided planning services to The City through Parkland Community Planning Services and Red Deer Regional Planning for 15 years – nine of those years as Manager of City of Red Deer Planning. An additional ten years of planning before that includes service delivery to Red Deer and Stettler Counties.

A degree in Environmental Studies specializing in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Waterloo provides Meyette with a strong planning foundation.

Meyette’s leadership also extends into the community as the past chair of the Central Alberta United Way Campaign, RDC Board of Governors, the Red Deer and District Community Foundation, and the Heritage Preservation Society.

Meyette will assume his new responsibilities on February 1, 2010.
