Only 22 days left to take part in the Municipalities Challenge

December 10, 2009

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Municipalities across the country are going head to head in hopes of raising the most money in support of local and Canadian athletes as part of the 2010 Own the Podium Municipalities’ Challenge. Red Deer is taking the challenge, but there is only 22 days left until it wraps up.

The Municipalities’ Challenge is an online fundraising initiative that runs until December 31 with all money raised providing Canadian athletes, coaches, and support personnel with additional resources, leadership and high performance support. This includes everything from research and development of equipment and technology to coaching development, training camps and sport medicine.

“The 2010 Olympic Winter Games are just around the corner,” said Mayor Morris Flewwelling. “I encourage Red Deerians to show their support of our local athletes by going online, making a donation and helping them own the podium in 2010.”

People who want to donate $20.10 in support of Own the Podium 2010 can visit www.reddeer.ca or http://www.olympicfoundation.ca/. For each online donation, a thank you letter and tax receipt is sent directly to your email.

So far, Red Deer has raised $190.20. The municipality that raises the most money per capita will win an exclusive 2010 Community Prize Package, and national bragging rights.

Donate $20.10 today. Take the Municipalities’ Challenge.
