Residential construction permits on the rise

December 1, 2009

(Red Deer, Alberta) – This year was a slower year in the construction industry, and March 2009 was a low point in permit statistics, but growth in residential housing was evident over the past few months.

At a recent conference in Edmonton, the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) forecasted housing starts to improve in 2010. CMHC predicts that with lower inventory and sales beginning to climb, residential housing starts are expected to increase.

November residential permit values are up 8.7 million to last November due to a multi family building permit, valued at 8.5 million, issued to Medican Construction Ltd for a 148 unit condominium. The condominium is located at 5301 Michener Avenue.

Monthly permit statistics will be posted on The City’s website at www.reddeer.ca/inspections.
