Traffic disruptions expected as pre-cast concrete structures travel into Red Deer

December 18, 2009

(Red Deer, Alberta) – As work continues on the new downtown parkade, drivers may experience some traffic disruptions. The pre-cast concrete for the downtown parkade is being brought into the city from Edmonton and Calgary. The concrete pre-cast structures will come in from 67 Street down the North Hill and into the downtown.

"There should not be enough of a disruption downtown to warrant road closures,” said Darin Sceviour, Safety Codes Officer with The City of Red Deer. “We just ask that drivers be aware the pre-cast is coming over the next few weeks and we appreciate their patience.”

The trucks will be unloading the pre-cast concrete for the next 10 to 12 weeks, with the trucks offloading at the new parkade site.

Though this may cause some disruptions, there are many advantages to using pre-cast concrete structures over building on-site. Pre-cast concrete is made at a plant, under controlled conditions, and undergoes routine quality control inspections.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
