The Green Team gears up
July 24, 2009
(Red Deer, Alberta) – A new corporate Green Team is leading the way when it comes to green initiatives at The City of Red Deer. The team is geared up and ready to go as it sets out to find ways The City can further reduce its environmental impact.
“The City’s overall environmental performance depends on individual employees making the right decisions in their day to day tasks,” said Pam Vust, Environmental Initiatives Coordinator. “The Green Team is about looking at what we’re doing as a corporation and leading by example when it comes to reducing our environmental impacts.”
The City of Red Deer Green Team is an internal committee designed to encourage, empower and support staff to “green” City departments and activities. The team is made up of employees from across the organization that will work together to make suggestions on how the corporation can mitigate the environmental impacts of City operations. Green Team members will act as a contact point for coworkers who have ideas or want to share concerns.
“The City already takes a proactive approach on many environmental initiatives, but there is always room for improvement,” said Vust. “Encouraging our staff to find ways to be more environmentally friendly may also help to identify operational efficiencies and save money in the long run.”
The Green Team will only address internal corporate environmental issues. Public environmental concerns can be submitted in writing to the Environmental Advisory Committee at Box 5008, Red Deer, AB, T4N 3T4 or by e-mail to
