Community programs benefit from FCSS funding

October 9, 2009

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Thirty community programs received support thanks to one-time funding through the Red Deer and District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS).

“It’s very exciting that we could support so many programs in the region,” said Pam Corsiatto, chairperson of the Red Deer and District FCSS. “We have a total of $185,709 that will be allocated to programs serving children, youth, families, adults and seniors.”

In September, the FCSS Board initiated an open call for one-time funding applications to groups that provide preventive social services within the FCSS region. “Our finance committee met on October 6 to review the 50 submissions we received,” said Corsiatto. “We were very impressed with all the applications, and we appreciate the level of detail and effort put into each of them.”

Each application was reviewed to ensure it met requirements set by the Red Deer and District FCSS Board including alignment with the FCSS mandate as set by the Province of Alberta.

“We’re fortunate to be able to support programs offering a diverse range of services,” said Corsiatto. “From building stronger families to professional development for program staff, this funding will make a positive difference for residents in our FCSS region.”

Red Deer and District FCSS serves individuals from Bowden, Delburne, Elnora, Penhold, Red Deer County and the city of Red Deer. FCSS funding is a shared partnership between the Alberta Children and Youth Services Ministry and these six municipalities. In addition to programs for children, youth and families, FCSS also provides funding for adults, seniors and community development. FCSS funded programs provide preventive social services that enhance the social well-being of individuals and families through promotion or intervention strategies provided at the earliest opportunity.
