(Red Deer, Alberta) – Staff at the newly renovated Golden Circle will unveil the centre’s public art pieces at a high tea on Sunday, April 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
The art consists of a number of large low-relief tiles of mixed media that reflect stories the artist collected from Golden Circle patrons during the research portion of the project last fall. The tiles will be mounted on both large walls inside the main multi-purpose room.
The artist, Ann Cunningham of Golden, Colorado, will be present for the unveiling and will be accompanied by local historian Michael Dawe, who will enliven the high tea with tales of high adventure.
The tiles to be unveiled incorporate four themes:
- The farm, featuring a farmer leading a horse, chickens, and a gardener hoeing
- Coronation Park, featuring bicyclists, children playing, people walking and a Mickey the Beaver look-alike by the river
- Lawn bowling outside the Golden Circle
- Inside the Golden Circle, featuring a dancer twirling in the shadows as the band play
