(Red Deer, Alberta) – The City of Red Deer and Red Deer Public Library are teaming up to make it even easier for Red Deerians to love the library. Starting on May 1, 2010, citizens will be able to drop off their library books in a new book drop at the Collicutt Centre.
“This partnership between the library and The City will improve the level of service we’re able to provide to the community,” said Dean Frey, Director of Red Deer Public Library. “By offering a book drop at the Collicutt Centre, we’re making it easier for Red Deerians to enjoy their library books and return them on time.”
The book drop, which can accommodate RDPL books, DVDs, and CDs, is the first of many initiatives on which the Collicutt Centre and RDPL will be collaborating, with more joint services in the works for later this year. Increasing convenience for Red Deerians was the driving force behind offering these joint services, according to Kay Kenny, Recreation Superintendent with The City.
“People lead busy lives and may not have the time to stop downtown when their books are due,” said Kenny. “The book drop at the Collicutt Centre will eliminate the need for many people to take an extra trip downtown just to drop off their library books.”
Although the book drop is located at the Collicutt Centre, staff there are not responsible for the book drop service or any RDPL items. Items that do not fit in the drop are to be returned to the Downtown Branch of the library during regular business hours.
